The Rap Game Back in the Day and Now

Image
With all of the flack artists (and I use this word lightly) get for going mainstream thus signing 360 deals does anyone remember how artists used to gain a crowd base? Artists use to pass their works off to radio to play them (along with selling their stuff in the trunks of their cars and everywhere else). The radio host would play the songs and listeners to the stations would vote on rather or not it would remain in radio rotation. You got your name out, built your fan base, and this helped you sell albums; also you retained the bulk of your profits by doing this. This is thinking like an entrepreneur. Along the way though these artists got lazy and began accepting loans from studio companies to front all of their groundwork in return for getting paid back. The studio companies put up the money for the works they wanted in rotation thus getting garbage pushed upon us. It started slowly by the companies pushing garbage and paying stations to play it constantly. Afterwards rinse an...

Rule Number 1

Image
I’m in a little game dropping mood right now. :-D Rule Number 1 is don’t listen to women. Women generally give the worst advice when it comes to dating. Women will tell you such and such and turn around and do the exact opposite of what they said. I remember once reading a post by a cat that I respect that had a woman try to advise him. She told him such and such about her ex, so he asked her why she wasn’t still with her ex. She told him, “I don’t know.” :-D  This why I say that the moment a guy starts taking advice from women he’s TRULY lost. Now that I’ve established Rule Number 1 I’m going to overlap myself. The saying is don’t listen to women (for the aforementioned reasons), however truthfully you have to listen to women if you want to streamline your learning process. (Completely not listening to women will cause you to learn everything the slow and hard way.) The key is to only listen to the right women (and they’re few and far in between). There are many ways to le...

Father's Advice #2: Doing Homework, holding frame, saying no, and walking away

Image
I am going to share another one of my father's advice that has served me well since I was in high school. It was after my dad took me with him to buy a new car when I was ten. I don’t remember all the details, but I think the advice still holds true today. Most of the older people in this sub know this, but for many of the people younger than high school age who never had to buy a car, car salesmen are very slimy, but they use some very basic tricks to make sure the deal is in their favor. Some of them include hand-offs, bluffing that "the computer tells me that it is worth this much", "let me talk to my boss," etc. This was about to be my first of several lessons I got out of this unforgettable car buying experience.  Lesson 1. Do your homework.  After my dad and I had walked around and looked at the cars. The salesman, let's call him Nick, then came to my dad with a sheet of papers with a few "deals" and "packages" he could offe...

Stupidity Within Businesses Nowadays

Image
I’m a graduate student, and in my 1st class, I learned that leaders never show weakness to their subordinates ( The Longview: Lasting Strategies for Rising Leaders p. 64). However, businesses are taking not showing weakness to subordinates to the extreme, to the point of neglecting to use intelligence in their decision-making. I quit a job back in October because I got fed up with their nonsense. When I got hired the lead human resources guy told us that he’d do what he could to resolve issues to retain personnel; once we got hired the company forgot all about doing what it could to retain personnel and simply considered us disposable. Organizations consist of people carrying out processes at proficient levels; if an organization lacks this, then this organization is slowly heading towards closing. A lot of organizations are losing money by the boatloads, but their leaders won’t put aside their petty pride to even consider the notion that perhaps they may be doing something wron...
