Insuring Against White Supremacy Attacks
Sorry to the fanbase; I know that it’s been a while since I’ve made a new post. I just haven’t felt like typing anything lately. However, this post necessitates it. Hidden Colors’ producer, Tariq Nasheed, mentioned something very important in one of his latest broadcasts; he mentioned the need for Foundational Black Americans (FBA) to insure themselves against White supremacists’ attacks. He specifically said life insurance. However, I’m going to expand upon that—since insurance is my expertise.
First, I’m going to give some background on insurance. During slavery, slaves were insured. This, along with the tangible benefits our ancestors provided, are why slaves were insured. All of the slave-owners purchasing property insurance fueled the insurance economy and gave rise to insurance juggernauts. (By the way, slaves were considered property.) This is a major reason why racist White people didn’t go around killing Black people. If they’d have done so, they’d have gotten into trouble with slave-owners and insurance companies. The insurance company aspect sparked Tariq’s comments about FBA insuring ourselves against White supremacists’ attacks.
Now, here is where I’m going to expand. Tariq mentioned purchasing life insurance policies on ourselves. However, life insurance policies primarily benefit the beneficiary if the insured dies. Many policies also offer riders to cover the insured for critical illnesses. However, external injuries fall underneath accidents. Therefore, if one doesn’t die from being shot, then the life insurance policy will not offer many benefits. One would need a supplemental health policy to cover oneself here. Also, throw in an accidental death and dismembered (AD&D) policy. AD&D policies are very cheap.
Moreover, this creates a conundrum for the dominant society. Often the dominant society determines our deaths by race soldiers as being a justifiable accident. Therefore, for just $10 a month, your beneficiary can receive $100K for your accidental death. If the dominant society wants to dispute this, then it’ll go into some litigation. Alternatively, the culprit can admit that killing the person wasn’t an accident. However, that would be admitting guilt.
Now, let’s expand on the supplemental policies that I mentioned. It’s still required by law to carry health insurance. However, health insurance pays the hospital. Moreover, it covers about 80% of your bills—leaving you with the other 20% to pay out-of-pocket. This is where supplemental health insurance comes into play. It pays you directly. You can use the money to cover any balances you have from hospital bills. If there is any leftover, that’s yours to keep. Depending on ones’ job, you’ve likely met agents that sell supplemental health insurance. These agents often sell life insurance too. It’s important to buy these policies. Policies being offered at work are group-underwritten. So, one doesn’t have to take a physical. Also, since the policy is a part of the group, the rates are cheaper. Finally, although the policies are group-underwritten, you own the policy. So, if you leave your current place of employment, the policy will follow you—provided you accept the rate increase of your group-rated policy becoming an individual-rated policy. The same is true for your life insurance policy purchased through the agents.
Now, if you’re not fortunate enough to meet an insurance agent at your job, you may get an opportunity to meet one at home. Many go door-to-door prospecting. At least, this happened before the pandemic. You could also meet such an agent at church—if you go. Finally, you can do a Google search on “independent black insurance agents near me” and pull up some results. These insurance agents sell life, health, property, and casualty insurance. This means that these agents are your one-stop-spot for insurance. So, you don’t have to rack your brain, attempting to find an agent near you.
