Parenting versus Babysitting
The result of failed parenting. |
However, in the Black community, this isn’t happening. Many parents are simply babysitting their children until adulthood. Once adulthood comes, their children set out on their paths naïve and blind to what the world has in store. This is why so many young people have such difficulties. If you’re just watching over your kids, and not instilling knowledge into them, then you’re failing as a parent. Every generation life is supposed to get easier for the descendants. However, in the Black community, this isn't happening—which means that many Black parents are failing their children. For us, every generation life becomes more difficult due to racism remaining pervasive.
Now, as a parent, your job is to acquire wealth and pass it down. The wealth that you pass down doesn’t necessarily have to be a business. It can be your investment portfolio once you pass away. It can be access to associates within your network that help your child get started at a company. You can (and should) even create a portfolio for your child so that he/she starts out owning something and has access to a source of income. If you fail to do any of this, then you’re failing as a parent. Love doesn’t protect your children from systematic racism; wealth does, and power does. Finally, if you’re a person that has had children but doesn’t have these things, and don’t know how to acquire these things, then you failed at life and should’ve not had kids.
